Speakers: 

Mike Zampa is Director of Communications at the Port of Oakland, with over 25 years of communications experience including eight years within the maritime sector. He is responsible for expanding awareness and understanding of the Port, its projects, and policies. Mr. Zampa manages both internal and external communications including media outreach, public relations, and strategic and crisis communications. He worked previously for container shipping line APL and its Singapore-based parent company, NOL Group. Before APL, Mr. Zampa was the Senior Vice President of Communications Services at Bank of America overseeing Internal Communications, Media Relations, and Marketing Communications where he managed all internal communications during one of the largest U.S. financial services mergers in history, Bank of America and Nation’s Bank. He began his career in journalism and worked as Managing Editor of the Contra Costa Times newspaper. He has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area, Singapore and Jakarta.

Ron Brown has been with the Port of Oakland for the last ten years, currently serves as the Port’s Maritime Marketing and Commodities Representative. Mr. Brown is responsible for coordinating shipments with international cargo shippers to points all over the world. He hosts foreign trade delegations who seek U.S. business partners and service providers. Ron handles the marketing and business development projects with all of the Port’s stakeholders including ocean carriers, marine terminal operators, beneficial cargo owners, regulatory agencies, community organizations, political officials, foreign government delegations, and various trade associations. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an MBA in Marketing and Finance.
